Contains a short biographical sketch of Lewis and a travelogue of his military assignments. Also contains an autobiographical account of his war years, describing his induction at the war's beginning, assignment to Australia, training in jungle warfare and amphibious assaults, sicknesses contracted, and living conditions on military bases. Discusses his participation in the invasions of New Guinea and the island of Biak, and the enemy ground and air resistance encountered. Gives an account of a serious injury sustained during a Japanese bombing raid, his surgeries, and eventual discharge for medical reasons. Collection also includes biographies of Lewis's parents and brothers, the latter who also served in the war. Photographs include Lewis in full military dress and others depicting jungle warfare and amphibious landings.
